I have always worn Shoei helmets, because they fit the shape of my head best and are of recognized fine quality. My last two helmets were the RF-1000 and RF-1100, which were generally praised for comfort and ventilation. I tried an Arai helmet seven or eight years ago, but it did not fit my head shape. Apparently, things have changed, at least with the Vector-2. It is noticeably more comfortable than my RF-1100, and it fits my head even better. It fits me perfectly. The ventilation of this helmet is also noticeably better than the RF-1100, especially around the face shield. The vent at the bottom really channels a lot of air to my chin, and the two vents in the top of the shield suck the air out. I have not had it in fog yet, but I believe that it will work great, or at least better than the RF-1100. Another huge difference is that this helmet is noticeably quieter than the RF-1100. I always use foam ear plugs, and now the wind and engine noise is so attenuated that it ma kes it flat-out pleasant to wear this helmet. And of course, the fluorescent yellow color is ultra-noticeable. I have also noticed that the top of the face cut-out sits lower on my forehead than the RF-1100. It only cuts out a bit more sky, and the benefit comes when riding into a low sun. In that case it blocks the direct sunlight much better than the RF-1100. The two black plastic air vents in the top of the shield are a bit distracting visually, but I'm getting used to them. Clear plastic vents might be an improvement, but their air-moving benefit greatly outweighs any visual distraction. I have always like my Shoei helmets and considered them about as good as it gets. But for me, the Arai Vector-2 has taken helmets to a new level of function and comfort. Even with costing a bit more than the RF-1100, the Arai Vector-2 is a huge bargain.
